Gab made his own astronomy worksheet for us to answer. It is a simple TRUE or FALSE quiz about the solar system yet Quennie and I cannot get a perfect 10.
Gab loves reading his book Exploring Creation With Astronomy. He got his favorite facts and made it to a worksheet for us to answer. Below is the astronomy worksheet that Gab made. His questions are definitely no the kind of astronomy questions I encountered when I was in Grade 1.
Try to answer them yourselves. Are you smarter than a 6-year-old? Do you think you can get a perfect 10?

1. TRUE. Europa is the second of the Galilean moons of Jupiter. It has the smoothest surface since there are very few craters unlike the other planets or moons. See a photo of Europa by NASA’s Galileo spacecraft.
2. FALSE. Almathea is not a Galilean moon or the Jovian moons discovered by Galileo. Amalthea is the third moon of Jupiter in order of distance from the planet. The four Galilean moons are Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. They were first seen by Galileo Galilei in January 1610.
3. TRUE. Olympus Mons stands about two and a half times as tall as Mount Everest’s height above sea level and is known as the the tallest mountain in the Solar System.
4. TRUE. Not to be confused with the Great Red Spot, the Great Dark Spot of Neptune is believed to be a storm similar to, but only half the size of, Jupiter’s Great Red Spot. The Great Dark Spot was first discovered when the Voyager 2 spacecraft flew by Neptune in 1989. When the Hubble Space Telescope looked at Neptune in 1994, the Great Dark Spot was gone and a different dark spot had appeared in the northern atmosphere of Neptune.
5. FALSE. Using his telescope, Galileo found that Venus went through phases, just like our Moon. This observation was a very significant discovery since it helped proved the Copernican system wherein the sun is the center of the solar system and not the Earth.
6. FALSE. Lighting has been observed in other planets like Jupiter, Saturn and Venus. Since there is lighting, it means that these planets have an atmosphere like that of Earth. But Jupiter’s lighting are classified as superbolts. They can be hundred of times more powerful than lighting on Earth. Check out more differences between Jupiter and Earth based on observations from Juno spacecraft.
7. TRUE. Jupiter has rings too! Jupiter’s rings were first found by the Voyager 1 spacecraft in 1979. See the rings of Jupiter here.
8. FALSE. Well, it used to be true. But in 2006, Pluto was demoted to a dwarf planet instead of a planet. It’s a long explanation. Here’s BBC on Why is Pluto no longer a planet.
9. TRUE. Uranus is flipped over on its side. It has an axial tilt of about 97.8 degrees making it look like it is lying down.
10. TRUE. Neptune’s atmosphere has traces of methane. When sunlight reaches the planet, methane absorbs red light and the bluer light is reflected back. Thus, we see Neptune as a blue-green planet.
I got 6 correct answers.. hehe very smary boy!!
Good job. 😀 Thanks for answering. I guess another 20 years from now there will be more discoveries and we won’t be able to answer questions about them again.
