Telling Time By the Quarter Worksheets will be more challenging for kindergarten kids and Grade 1 students. This set lets the child be familiar reading an analog clock by 15th minute and the 45th minute.
Teaching the 15th minute is easier since the hour hand points closely to the same hour. For example, when looking at 2:15, the hour hand points closely at 2 o’clock. So kids can easily identify it.
However, when it is at the 45th minute, the hour hand is far from the actual hour. For example, if the time is 2:45, the hour hand is already close to 3 o’clock. Kids would often say this as 3:45 even though it is just 2:45.
It will take a lot of practice for children to master this. If they make a mistake, don’t rush in correcting it.
My technique was to assure my son that he sees the hour hand close to the number but it is not yet touching it. He just need to look closely. Then, I started introducing the fact that each hour is 60 minutes. So if the minute hand is not yet past the 60th minute, the hour hand is not touching it yet.
It took us a month or two for him to master it. It just takes time.
Each page has 5 clocks to match with the time. It’s random so the child cannot just guess the next one. You can hand out one worksheet a day. If they are getting better, you can start giving 2 a day.
There are 5 worksheets in this Telling Time By The Half Hour Set. I included a blank page worksheet if you wish to create your own.
