I may be aware of some of DepEd’s guidelines, but I do not know much about PEPT, same thing with the details about ALS.
With the help of some homeschool friends, I made this article to help us, yes that includes me, to understand about PEPT.
Online Registration for PEPT (Feb 3, 2021 Onwards)
What is PEPT?
Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) is under the Accreditation and Equivalency Program (Executive Order No. 733, s. 1981).
“The purpose is for retrieving out-of-school youth (OSY) and placing them in the formal school system if they so desire, and for validating and accrediting knowledge and skills in academic areas gained through informal and non-formal means for re-entry into formal school, job promotion, entry to job training, for employment and self-fulfillment.”
Who needs to take PEPT?
PEPT was designed by DepEd for evaluation of students prior to entering the school system. Independent homeschoolers need PEPT for them to enroll in a college or university.
PEPT is not meant to be used as a yearly assessment for homeschoolers without the intention to enter into the Department of Education system (whether under an accredited provider or to be in a traditional school).
PEPT is not conducted for purposes of grade level acceleration.
What is the PEPT Coverage?
PEPT is administered to all levels from Grade 1 to high school. The test is a multiple-choice type based on the K to 12 Curriculum.
Elementary Level: Science | Mathematics | Araling Panlipunan | Filipino | English

What is the PEPT Schedule? How does one register for it? These questions will be discussed in the next post: How to Register for PEPT
If you have more info and some tips about PEPT, feel free to leave your comments.

Hi – is the PEP Test age based? My son finished his grade 5 at aged 9. He was supposed to be in grad 6 this SY but we opted to home school him, independently. Should he go back to school for grade 7, will they allow him to take the PEP Test fr Grade 7 at age 11? Thanks!

Thanks for this article.
My 12 year old daughter just had her PEPT Test in DepEd Main Office in Pasig. She took the Kinder to Grade 6 level exams in all major subjects. She was able to finish it in 5 hours. We’ve been independently homeschooling her since she was Grade 1. We got an online tutor for Filipino subject which she meets online for an hour 3x a week for 2 years (pandemic years). Her favorite subject is English, she spends more time with her textbooks, workbooks and worksheets in that subject because she finds it very easy and fun. She’s also very keen in Science and finds Math very challenging. She ignores her AP books because it is in Tagalog, her first language is English that is why she’s not really into Filipino and AP subjects. It is a fact we can’t avoid those subjects and we should uphold interest and love for learning Filipino and Araling Panlipunan for a child’s national identity and to help in nation building, thus I let her watch YouTube videos made by DepEd teachers for the said subjects.
Surprisingly, when we got the results of the PEPT Test, our daughter passed all subjects with flying colors, yes, including Filipino and AP, but failed in English Grade 1 and English Grade 5, she also got not so impressive rating in English in other grade levels. This was really unexpected. But , as we assessed the situation, there were several possible factors that might have been the reason why she failed in that subject and grade level.
The English test booklet was given at the last part, when the child is already mentally exhausted after taking the harder subjects first. Since it was given at the last part of the grueling test schedule, she was already taking the English test almost near lunch time when it was already very hot inside the testing room. She didn’t take a snack break, she just wanted to be done as fast as she could, because she was tired and hungry and feeling so hot because there was a heatwave that time (April 2024). When the lunch break was announced, she came out of the testing room and told us that the exams was easy and she will be able to finish it immediately after lunch because she only had 4 questions remaining. After we had lunch, she came back to the testing room to finish the test and came out after almost 10 minutes.
My advice to parents, make sure your child took heavy breakfast before the test, give your child a choco drink or bear brand milk in tetra pack or a juice that could easily be taken during the test because they are allowed to take a snack break inside the testing room if they want to. Kids are kids, they are always in a hurry and they wanted to finish as soon as possible . They don’t want to prolong the agony.
Remind your child not to skip anything in the test, if your child decides to skip for the meantime (and plans to go back to that number to answer it) to save time, make sure to double check. Tell your child to make sure their answer would be shaded according to the correct item number. The PEPT Test is checked by machines , so shading on the incorrect item number, soft shading or improper shading would affect their scores.
