DepEd has announced that the start of classes for School Year 2017-2018 shall formally open on Monday, June 5, 2017 and shall end on Friday, April 6, 2018. This is according to Education Secretary Leonor Briones in the DepEd Order No. 25 series 2017 dated last May 5.
The new school year would consist of 204 school days inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training for teachers and the four-day Parent-Teacher Conferences every quarter. But students are expected to be in school for 195 class days.
Private schools may deviate from the official DepEd 2017-2018 school calendar but they may not start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August as provided in Republic Act No. 7797.
Among the highlights of the Official DepEd 2017-2018 School Calendar include the conduct of the Brigada Eskwela SY 2017-2018 from May 15 to May 19; Oplan Balik Eskwela SY 2017-2018 from May 29 to June 16; Deworming of School Children (Round 1- First Dosage) from July 1 to July 31 ; and the World Teachers’ Day celebration on October 5.
The School Holidays and Breaks for SY 2017-2018 include the following:
- June 12, 2017 – Independence Day
- June 26, 2017 – Eid’l Fitr
- August 28, 2017 – National Heroes’ Day
- October 23 to October 27, 2017 – Start of Semestral Break
- November 1, 2017 – All Saints’ Day
- November 30, 2017 – Bonifacio Day
- December 22, 2017 – Start of Christmas Break
