We are getting ready to officially homeschool Gab. Thus, we are preparing our home to be homeschool-friendly. First, we need to have space for Gab’s “school”. We need to let go of a lot of things, from books, gadgets, furniture and appliances. Then, we’d buy new shelves and storage for his books and materials.
Today, we just cleared up his bookshelf. We are removing his old books to make room for new ones. The books we will be removing will be sent to his grandparents in Bacolod instead for safekeeping.
These books are bound for Bacolod
Sound easy but the tricky part is to make sure Gab knows which ones we are keeping and which ones will be sent to Bacolod.
Gab is an early reader. He started reading before he was 3 years old. It’s a skill I really wanted to impart since I am a bookworm myself.
Gab reads daily. He knows his books very well. So we thought Gab should be the one making the decision of which books he will keep and which ones he will be sending.
We’d grab a book on the shelf, show it to him, and he tells us if we can up it in the box. We freed up about 30 books.
If he can’t decide, I’d sometimes point out that the book is for 3 year olds and that he is already too old for them. That trick work, even if some of the book says 3+. Hehehe…
One of Gab’s favorites but he know he’s too old of it
There are still a lot of books left in his shelf that we can’t let go. But these are books worth keeping. Quennie and I know that these are his favorites.
Even for us, it is hard to let go of these books. With them are the memories of bonding with Gab as we taught him to read. They might end up hidden in a corner and unopened for years. But its memories would always be with us.
Goodbye books… and thank you…
