This Count and Match Game helps the child learn how to count while having fun. Learning to count will improve their readiness for other math concepts that will be taught in the future, such as addition and subtraction.
There are several ways to play the Count and Match Game. I suggest starting with a few numbers, like 1, 2 and 3 only. Then gradually add new numbers as the child masters the first three.
How to Play Count and Match
Mechanics 1:
- Print and Cut out the cards.
- Give the cards with numbers (NUMBER CARDS) to the child.
- Pick one of the cards with dots (DOT CARD) and show it to the child.
- Ask the child to count the number of dots on the card.
- Finally, let the child pick the NUMBER CARD that matches the number of dots.
Mechanics 2: Another option is to show the NUMBER CARD first and let the child select which DOT CARD matches the number. But do this only if the child has mastered all NUMBER CARDS and DOT CARDS already.
Mechanics 3: For this game, use the DOT CARDS and the BALL CARDS only. The dots and the balls are arranged differently to avoid guessing the number based on familiarity. The child needs to count again. We also prepared CANDY CARDS so you can choose which one will be most interesting to your child.
- Give the BALL CARDS to the child.
- Show one of the cards with dots. Ask the child to count the number of dots on the card.
- Let the child match the number of dots with the number of balls from the BALL CARDS.
You can mix and match the different cards. Like, use the NUMBER CARDS and the BALL CARDS. Or use the BALL CARDS and the CANDY CARDS.
Have fun learning at home!
