Cashaysayan Book Review : Learning about Philippine Money
Part our Araling Panlipunan lesson was about Philippine Money. We used the book Cashaysayan as one of the materials for this lesson.
Cashaysayan, written by authors Michelline Suarez, Joonee Garcia, and Divine Reyes. It’s the second book they released after the Halo-Halo Histories, , published by Tahanan Books.
What we love about Cashaysayan
The book talks about how money originated, invented and used in the country, from the barter days, up to the present time.
It provides an overview of how the money is designed, approved, minted, how it reached the bank and to us.
It gives practical tips on how you can spot and identify bills from counterfeit ones. This was Gab’s favorite and he even shared this with his homeschool friends in one of our learn group sessions.
In using this book, we also touched on the lessons on the Presidents of the Philippines – from Manuel Roxas to Benigno Aquino Jr.
What we would love to be included in Cashaysayan
It would be great if taking care of the money and what is not allowed to be done with our currency will be included.
To supplement our lesson, we went out to a fried trip at the BSP Museum with fellow homeschoolers. We saw some of artifacts included in the book.
We also used the following Money Worksheets:
- Philippine Money Worksheets
- Identifying Philippine Money Worksheets
- Philippine Money Worksheets (New Generation Currency)
- Philippine Money Worksheets : Philippine Bills and Philippine Coins
Cashaysayan is a good book in learning about the Philippine Money History. It is an easy to read book that even young kids can enjoy.
