There are plenty of Apps for Tracing Letters and Numbers that toddlers will be interested in. My son doesn’t enjoy writing but when we started using iPad apps for tracing letters and numbers, he was spending more time learning letters, numbers and how to write them.
Here are some of the apps for tracing letters and numbers that we have used and some that are available at the App Store. Check out which ones your child will love. Using these apps for tracing letters and numbers instead of paper will save trees too. 😀
DADDY TIP: Your child can use their fingers to trace letters in their iPads. But if they can already grip or grasp a pen or pencil, try using a pen stylus when they trace letters. Most apps will work on iPhones too but it’s too small for writing. Better to use iPads instead.
Little Writer – The Tracing App for Kids (FREE) – Our personal favorite. It’s free but it has the features needed for tracing. Aside from being an apps for tracing letters and numbers, there are tracing activities for shapes and simple words, as well. View in App Store.
Learn to Write with Mr. Pencil HD (FREE) – Mr. Pencil by Leapfrog is free for download at the App Store but the Mr. Pencil Stylus to unlock its full features. The Mr. Pencil Stylus is sold separately. The app is nice but can be a bit crowded and confusing. The Mr. Pencil Stylus is attractive that Gab loves using it to write. ABC Letter Tracing – Free Writing Practice for Preschool (FREE) – Simple tracing app for letters only. Letters are arranged alphabetically with tabs below for choosing the desired letter. This app is good if you only what your child to focus on letter only. View in App Store.
LetterSchool – learn to write letters and numbers (4.99 USD) – Letter school goes beyond tracing and writing. It is like several apps in one. It contains introduction to letters, numbers, tracing, and phonics. LetterSchool comes with 3 fonts and progress setting for up to 3 players. View in App Store.
iWriteWords (Handwriting Game) (2.99 USD) – iWriteWords has been voted as one of the Best iPhone Apps for Kids by The New York Times and The Washington Post. The tracing apps is disguised as a game where the child helps a crab collect the dots when they are actually tracing the letter already. View in App Store.
Tracing ABC – Learn To Write Alphabet, Numbers and first Words (1.99 USD) – A fun way to learn letters, number and words. Tracing ABC comes with over 800 words to practice which is about 80% of the elementary school words. Comes in English and Spanish. View in iTunes.
abc PocketPhonics: letter sounds & writing + first words (6.99 USD) – PocketPhonics is an all-in-one suite learning app. PocketPhonics teaches kids letter sounds, first words, and handwriting. It’s quite an ambitious app but it will also help your child to learn how to read. View in iTunes.
