The book First Around the Globe is inspired by an article based on a 1995 article written by National Artist for Historical Literature Carlos Quirino, about Magellan’s slave Enrique.
The book talks about the Enrique’s travel with his master during the first quarter of the sixteenth century. This is a ten-year journey around the world, from the time he was kidnapped by pirates as a youth, to Magellan’s death at the Battle of Mactan.

The books offers an opportunity to start learning on the “discovery” of the Philippines by Magellan and that the Philippines eventually became a colony of by Spain. There are many voyages included in the book. Kids can trace on the Philippine and World maps about the different places mentioned in the story.
There are several land and water forms (island, bay, straight) mentioned in the story. In can also be an introduction at teaching about the 7 continents of the world as the voyage covers Asia and Europe.
Kids can also check and keep track of different times and dates in the story – year Magellan met Enrique, year Magellan arrived in the Visayas, when the Spaniards came back to the Philippines
